DAISY Award Winners
“The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way.”
Since implementing the DAISY Program at Spectrum Health Grand Rapids in August 2016, 44 clinical nurses have been recognized as DAISY Honorees for the care they deliver at the bedside, and 44 support staff team members have received the BEE (Being Extraordinary Every day) Award. Hundreds of other clinical nurses have received a special DAISY pin to recognize a nomination written by a patient, family member of a patient, or sometimes a fellow health care team member. The DAISY program at SHGR continues to grow and is a meaningful, impactful way for our nurses to be honored.
